Nebraska team classifications are based on power ratings, tournament results and by overall team performance on the field during sanctioned tournaments.
Any team that is reforming from the 2020 season must start the 2021 season in the same classification (or higher) than they finished in the 2020 season unless moved by the State Director.
For purpose of classifications, if six (6) or more players from a 2020 team are on a 2021 team, they are considered the same team regardless of the TEAM NAME, MANAGER, COACHING STAFF or SPONSOR.
Any team that won the 2021 State Tournament will be moved up a classification to begin 2021. 99% of the teams that finished the 2020 season with 1100 Power Points will be moved up a classification to begin 2021 and if they finished the season with less than 500 Power Points they will be moved down a classification to begin the 2021 season. This is meant to be starting point only for the 2021 season.
The State Office and committee will make final classification adjustments around the 1st week of June each season. This should give team’s ample time to prepare for State and World Series. Please note that teams may be reclassified at any time by the Nebraska USSSA Baseball State Office or by the USSSA National Baseball Committee.
Undoubtedly, not everyone will agree with classifications. Any team wishing to appeal a classification may do so after playing a minimum of four to six USSSA tournament games against teams from their classification after January 1, 2021. Once the results for these games have been posted to the USSSA system, a review will be completed to determine if the team is competitive at the new level. Any appeal must be done via email to the State Office.
I would highly recommend that if you find your team in the (1000 to 1100) Power Point range during the 2021 season that you make sure to play tournament games in the higher classification to provide us information in making classification decisions. Otherwise expect a move up.
We all work together to schedule games, schedule tournaments, develop players, and provide anything needed for ball players to play ball. It is now time we work together to find umpires to work the ball games!
We need to work together to recruit new umpires otherwise there will be many games with one or zero umpires. Each organization has a social media feed, website, and e-mail list. I am asking each of you on this e-mail to help share information below on how to become an umpire and when we can setup times to get umpires trained.
2) PSOA will send a contract and PowerPoint with information on what is involved in umpiring.
3) We have a new online course we enroll new umpires in this year through the website Ump App to help with quick rules education.
4) We offer on field training sessions to teach umpires proper mechanics, positioning, voice and signals. So far we have offered 14 of them this year.
5) We will help get umpires uniforms and equipment. If they cannot afford equipment/uniform we purchase the equipment up front and as they work games half game fees goes to paying off the equipment.
6) Last step is umpires sign up for games that fit their schedule. Games pay $35 (Rec Softball) up to $50 (Select baseball) This is on average $25 per hour for a wage/salary.
PSOA next informational meeting is Monday April 12th 2021 @ Tanners located at 119th and Pacific St. in Omaha NE 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Our professional instructors are available Monday April 12th, Tuesday April 13th, Wednesday April 14th, Thursday April 15th, and Friday April 16th 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM next week to do training sessions at any outdoor field in your community, any gym in your community or any indoor facility your program has to offer. I do not charge any fees to train new umpires. If you have a field, indoor facility, or indoor location we can offer training for your community please let me know which date. We would need three hours to complete the training.
With our current staff there is no possible way we will be able to fill all games this season. Please help spread the word of to the target population that can help the most. (Team parents, brothers and sisters of players, high school students, former players, college students, old coaches, team followers in Game changer)
